STUDY PROCESS
The study process began with collecting and analyzing hard data, such as traffic volumes and accident rates, assessing the condition and function of the existing transportation system, and listening to the concerns and ideas of those of us who use Wellsboro’s transportation system every day.
The study team next developed draft recommendations for how Wellsboro can best enhance transportation within realistic funding levels. The recommendations were discussed and refined with borough council members and PennDOT officials. In April the study team conducted an outreach session with the eighth grade students at Rock L. Butler Middle School to listen to their ideas on transportation and discuss the draft recommendations.
In May
the recommendations were presented to the public at an open house. Issues and ideas raised at the open house will be discussed with the Project Advisory Committee and the recommendations will be revised appropriately.
The Final Report was completed in June 2009 and is available on the Documents page. It includes an implementation plan with the final list of recommendations prioritized into near-, mid-, and long-term initiatives. The plan includes specific actions to help achieve the recommendations, potential funding sources, and a list of partner entities who should be involved in implementation.
